Vessel Privacy Policy
Vessel Technologies, Inc. and our subsidiaries and affiliates (Vessel or we), take your privacy seriously.

Vessel’s Home Automation System allows you to customize and control your apartment’s smart home devices (such as lights, thermostats, door locks, intercoms and access control systems, parcel lockers, and video cameras that record video and audio in public spaces), contributing to an extraordinary living experience. Your Home Automation System is managed through our Mobile App.

Property owners of buildings that have Vessel’s Home Automation System (Vessel Buildings) are responsible for managing residents’ user accounts and receive certain non-personal information through an administrative portal (Admin Portal). Some Vessel Buildings are owned by Vessel and operated by its agents. The Home Automation System, the Mobile App, Admin Portal, and any associated software are together referred to as the Services.

This privacy policy (Policy) applies to Vessel’s Services and this website (the Site).

It describes:

Note that these groups are not necessarily exclusive. For example, you can be among the Vessel Committed and also apply to work for us or provide Personal Information when you visit our Site and then join the ranks of the Vessel Committed by becoming a resident of a Vessel Building.
Who We Collect Personal Information About

Vessel collects information about the following groups of people:

1.         The Vessel Curious.

People that are interested in Vessel’s Services (including those that visit this Site).

This includes:

·       Property owners interested in purchasing Vessel Buildings, as well as other potential business partners.
·       Consumers that may want to learn more about Vessel’s Services.
·       Anyone else visiting and engaging with this Site.

2.         The Vessel Committed.

People that use our Services. This includes:

·       Residents of Vessel Buildings who use the Mobile App and Home Automation System
·       Individuals that a resident adds to their Mobile App account who will thereby have the ability to access, monitor, and operate the Home Automation System within the resident’s apartment (Designated Users).
·       Property owner personnel authorized to access or use Vessel’s Admin Portal.
·       Property owners that have Vessel Buildings on their property.
·       Other Vessel business partners.  

3.         Residents of Vessel-Owned Properties.

Residents of Vessel Building that are owned by Vessel.

Applicants for jobs with Vessel.

Personal Information is data that identifies, relates to, describes, or can be associated with you and your household. Personal Information includes data that could be used to identify, locate, track, or contact you.We may collect Personal Information from you depending on how you interact with us and use our technology. Where Vessel is the owner of the Vessel Building where you reside, in addition to the Personal Information collected for Mobile App users listed above, Vessel may also collect Personal Information about you in its capacity as a property owner. This Personal Information is primarily collected on Vessel’s behalf by its property manager.

As you navigate through and interact with our Services, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your in-home devices, browsing actions, and usage patterns.

We use cookies and other data collection technologies to analyze the Site and Mobile App usage, estimate our audience size and usage patterns, store information about users’ preferences, and customize our Mobile App and Site according to their preferences. We use browser session and persistent cookies. Session cookies are temporary cookies that are erased from your device’s memory when you close your Internet browser or turn your computer off. Persistent cookies are stored on your device until they expire —unless you delete them sooner. In addition, there are browser settings that users can set in your internet browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox, which can also address cookies and trackers. Third-Party Use of Cookies

Video and Audio Recording in Common Spaces of Vessel Buildings

Vessel uses video cameras with audio recording capabilities in the common areas of Vessel Buildings, including but not limited to lobbies, hallways, elevators, parking garages, laundry facilities, and other shared spaces. These recording devices operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and serve to enhance the safety and security of residents, visitors, and staff and facilitate Home Automation System functionality. Access to the data recorded by these devices is limited to authorized personnel, including building management and Vessel personnel.
How Vessel Uses, Maintains, and Secures Personal Information

Vessel uses Personal Information for a variety of reasons:If you are one of the Vessel Curious, we may use your Personal Information to:

·       Analyze and improve our Site.

·       Communicate with you directly (upon your request or with your permission).

·       Market our products and services to you.

If you are among the Vessel Committed and live in a Vessel Building and use our Mobile App, are a Designated User, or if you are an authorized user of our Admin Portal, we may use your Personal Information to:

·       Provide Vessel’s products and services and manage your account with us.

·       Provide customer and technical support.

·       Communicate with you about your account and our Services.

·       Analyze and improve our Services.

·       Market new products and services to you.

·       Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, and prosecute those responsible for that activity.

·       Authenticate and verify individual identities, including requests to exercise your rights under this Policy.

·       Debug to identify and repair errors with our technology.

·       Create de-identified and aggregated Information. When we de-identify your Personal Information, we will not attempt to re-identify it.

If you are a Resident at a Vessel-Owned Property, in addition to the uses listed above for the Vessel Committed we, or our property manager on our behalf, may use your Personal Information to:

·       Evaluate your lease application, including running a background or credit check.

·       Communicate with you about your lease (this may be done through a property manager).

·       Provide you with services relating to your lease.

If you are a Visionary, we may use your Personal Information as part of reviewing your job application and considering you for a position.Other ways we may use the Personal Information of any of the people from whom we collect it:

·       To comply with our legal obligations.

·       For other legitimate business purposes as permitted by law.

·       For other purposes when we have obtained your consent.

Opting-Out of Marketing Communications

As mentioned above, we may use your information to send you marketing communications about our Services, as well as events that may interest you. You may opt out of promotional communications at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions included in the communications we send you or by contacting us via privacy@myvessel.com.

Data Retention

We apply different retention periods depending on the type of Personal Information collected and the purposes for which we use it. We will keep your information for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which the information was collected. We may be required to retain Personal Information to comply with our legal obligations or protect against fraudulent, deceptive, or illegal activity. Generally, we retain Personal Information for as long as the law requires us to or until legal retention obligations have ended.

How Vessel Protects and Secures Personal Information

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to help protect your information from accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure, or access. These measures include things like access management tools that help us control who at Vessel and among our service providers has access to Personal Information.
How We Disclose Personal Information

We may disclose Personal Information to the categories of third parties listed below and for the specific business purposes described in this section.

We do not sell your information or share it with third parties for cross-contextual behavioral advertising (i.e., targeted advertising). We do not share your Personal Information with third parties for their own direct marketing activities. However, we may disclose your information to the following third parties:

· Our vendors and service providers:

We use a variety of vendors and service providers that help us with our business activities, such as maintaining our Site, email and document management, shipping, payment processing, physical security, managing our marketing and customer relationships, leasing Vessel-owned properties, and providing our products and services to our customers. We require these companies and individuals to use your information only as necessary to provide their services to us.

· Credit reporting agencies (for Residents of Vessel-Owned Properties): We (or a property manager) may disclose information about you to, or request it from, credit reporting agencies as part of a job (or lease) application.

· Business transfers: We may disclose information as part of or in connection with a corporate merger, consolidation, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or other corporate change.

· Legal requirements: We may also disclose your information when we reasonably believe it is required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements, as well as to honor user access rights, as applicable.

· Protection of rights: We may disclose information to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, including our employees, contractors, and agents, when we are required or permitted to do so by law.

· At your request: We may disclose information to a third party with your consent or at your direction.

· Fraud detection: We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to investigate fraud.
How You Can Manage Your Personal Information and Other Important Privacy Information

Do Not Track – Global Privacy Control

Some browsers have a “Do Not Track” feature. Our Site and Mobile App do not respond to Do Not Track requests, Global Privacy Control, or similar signals.

Data Transfers to the United States

Vessel is based in the United States, and our servers for the Site and Mobile App are located in the United States. If you access this Site and Mobile App from outside of the United States, you acknowledge that your Personal Information will be transferred to the United States and consent to that transfer. The United States may have privacy and data protection laws that are less stringent than the laws of your home country.

Links to Other Websites

Our Site and Mobile App may contain links to other sites that may provide helpful information or link to other platforms. Vessel Company does not control these third-party sites and is not responsible for their privacy practices or content. You should refer to the privacy statements of such third-party sites to find out how they collect and use your information.

Changes to this Policy

We may update portions of this Policy from time to time and will alert you that changes have been made by indicating the date it was last updated on the Policy. You can find the last update date at the top of this Policy. When you access our Site, Mobile App, and other Services, you are accepting the current version of this Policy as posted on our Site at that time. We recommend you re-visit this Policy occasionally to learn of any changes.If you have an account with us through the Mobile App or otherwise and we make material changes to how we treat our users' Personal Information, we will notify you by email to the primary email address specified in your account or other means (e.g. push notification). We want to make sure you receive these so please keep your email up-to-date. Please also visit our Mobile App and this privacy policy regularly to check for any changes.

Choices About How We Use and Disclose Your Information

We strive to provide you with choices regarding the Personal Information you provide us. You can control how we use your Personal Information in the following ways:

Children Under the Age of 16

Our Mobile App, Site, and services are not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 16. If you are under 16, do not use or provide any information on the Mobile App or Site or on or through any of the Mobile App or Site features. If we learn we have collected or received Personal Information from a child under 16 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 16, please get in touch with us at privacy@myvessel.com. As a reminder, we don’t sell the personal data of anyone over the age of 16, use it for targeted advertising, or use it to create a profile for any fully automated decision that may produce a legal or significant effect regarding our Services.
